Every day of the week brings a different brush-painted kanji, each chosen as an auspicious living creature and rendered in sumi-e ink on washi paper:
- Sunday — 鷹 TAKA (Hawk)
- Monday — 鶴 TSURU (Crane)
- Tuesday — 鷲 WASHI (Eagle)
- Wednesday — 鱗 UROKO (Scales)
- Thursday — 麒麟 RIN (Kirin)
- Friday — 鷺 SAGI (Heron)
- Saturday — 鏡 KAN (Mirror)
A small italic caption shows the character's reading, its meaning, and how far the day's painting has progressed — for example "TSURU · Crane · 14/21."

⏳ PAINTED THROUGH THE DAY
The brushstrokes build hour by hour, so the kanji grows more complete as the day unfolds — up to 24 stages in a single day. At the top of each hour the newest stroke arrives in warm vermillion, then settles into ink over the following ten minutes, echoing the old practice of marking fresh calligraphy in red. By the day's end the character is whole, and tomorrow's begins on a fresh sheet of washi.
